Tegaki stands on other people’s fonts and handwriting data. This page credits them and carries the notices their licenses ask to travel with them — the Studio runs the generator in your browser, so this site serves some of that data itself.
Bundled fonts
Section titled “Bundled fonts”The font bundles under tegaki/fonts/* are each under their font’s own license: the SIL Open Font License for all but Hershey Script, which carries the Hershey Fonts’ terms (below). Every font’s designer, copyright and license is listed in FONTS-LICENSE.md, which ships in the npm package.
Stroke-order datasets
Section titled “Stroke-order datasets”The generator orders each glyph’s strokes by the reference that fits its ink best, from these datasets (Studio › Pipeline › References):
- KanjiVG — Japanese kanji and kana, also print Latin and digits. Copyright © Ulrich Apel, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0. Read per character from KanjiVG’s files when a glyph needs it.
- Make Me a Hanzi — Chinese hanzi in PRC order. Copyright © Shaunak Kishore; its graphics are derived from Arphic PL fonts and released under the Arphic Public License. Read per character from Hanzi Writer’s republication, the
hanzi-writer-datapackage. - The Hershey Fonts — Hershey Script, Simplex and Greek, built into the generator. Their acknowledgement is below.
- Letterpaths — print letters and taught cursive lowercase, built into the generator. Its MIT notice is below.
- Hangul jamo and Punctuation — made for Tegaki, under its MIT license.
Datasets you draw in the Studio are yours; they stay in your browser.
Single-line fonts in the Studio
Section titled “Single-line fonts in the Studio”The Studio’s font picker lists single-line fonts, downloaded by your browser from their authors’ repositories when you pick one:
- The Hershey and EMS fonts from Evil Mad Scientist’s SVG fonts, converted by Windell H. Oskay. The EMS fonts are under the SIL Open Font License; the Hershey fonts under the Hershey Fonts’ terms below.
- Relief SingleLine by isdaT type, under the SIL Open Font License.
Hershey Fonts acknowledgement
Section titled “Hershey Fonts acknowledgement”The Hershey Fonts may be used by anyone for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, provided these acknowledgements are distributed with the font data:
- The Hershey Fonts were originally created by Dr. A. V. Hershey while working at the U. S. National Bureau of Standards.
- The format of the Font data in this distribution was originally created by James Hurt, Cognition, Inc., 900 Technology Park Drive, Billerica, MA 01821 (mit-eddie!ci-dandelion!hurt).
The font data may be converted into any other format except the format distributed by the U.S. NTIS, where each point is described in eight bytes as “xxx yyy:”, with xxx and yyy the coordinate values as ASCII numbers.
